Tianfu Square

Tianfu Square is the civic center of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, and is famous for its statue of Chairman Mao, reportedly the world’s largest. This design for its renewal would return the square to its historical importance within China and gives it a place among the world’s great urban spaces. Two large, open-air glass pavilions flanking the north-south axis, and creating a new east-west axis, would become the new architectural symbols of the city.
